When your water system contains Legionella bacteria you want to know immediately.  Especially if it contains Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1, the most virulent for of the bacteria which causes the vast majority of infections.  Unfortunately traditional laboratory tests take up to two weeks to produce results, during which time staff, residents and visitors to care and nursing homes continue to be exposed to the potentially fatal pathogen.  There is, however, a test intended to provide exactly this information at the sample point, which is simple enough to be performed on-site and provides results in just minutes.
