About hydrosense...

Hydrosense is one of Scotland's fastest growing start-up companies.  The company was formed at the end of 2002 with the assistance of a SMART:SCOTLAND award and the Scottish Enterprise National High Growth Start-up Unit.  The company combines electrooptics and biotechnology in an innovate field portable package for detecting bacteria in water.

This technology will provide the world's first quantitative, real time detection system for bacteria in water.  Our products will have a significant benefit to the water and beverage industry increasing public safety and consumer confidence, reducing system down time and enabling companies to protect their brand image from the negative publicity associated with disease outbreaks.

The World Health Organization says that "one sixth of the world's population don't have access to safe drinking water". Whilst hydrosense can't resolve that by itself, it can provide some of the tools needed to help governments address the issue.  "But these are not just third world issues" explains hydrosense founder, Neil Polwart, "several recent high profile problems have occurred in the UK, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands and the USA. In fact virtually every country in the world has had some sort of bacteria based problem with either industrial or drinking water in the last ten years."
